Head Teacher's Message

Welcome to our school. I hope you enjoy our web site, it is intended to tell you a little about our school, its ethos and what the children do.

The school is in a lovely position bordering on some beautiful countryside with the beach close by. We are lucky to have large playing fields that the children can use in the summer. There is a school garden run by the gardening club, and a school pond which is used for Science lessons. Our playground was resurfaced during May 2003, and new markings were added. The Friends Association recently raised money to provide a new adventure playground and stage blocks for the school.

In 2004 the school achieved two awards.

Sport England Activemark Active Mark recognises our development of Physical Education throughout the school. Every child now receives up to 2 hours of PE every week.

Healthy Schools Award recognises our work on physical health and well being which includes areas such as exercise and healthy eating.

In 2005 the school achieved another award- the Basic Skills Quality Mark. You can find out more  about the Quality Mark at the Basic Skills web site.
Basic Skills Agency  Primary Quality Mark

The school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the Governments National Curriculum requirements. In addition to this we try to provide extra activities; children in years 3 and 4 are encouraged to learn a musical instrument, we hold an annual arts week with visiting artists, and we have had several family learning events this year, including lantern making, lads and dads football and computer workshops. Last year the whole school performed a musical at the local theatre in Ryde. For the past two years the school has also take part in the Ryde Arts week Carnival parade. In the summer of 2004 the whole school completed a cross-curricular project on India, which included visits from Indian dancers, musician and artists. Family workshops were held after school to make costumes for the parade.

The reception class takes children who are over 4 years of age by the beginning of September, and children leave us at the end of Year 4 to go to middle school There is also Chatterbox nursery set within the grounds which offers excellent pre-school facilities for children aged 2 ½ to 4 years.
