Special educational needs
|
Children with special needs are assisted according to their particular requirements. Identification of special needs will from September 2002 be conducted through the use of The Revised Code of Practice This means that there have been some changes in SEN. The emphasis has changed from assessment to intervention. The school will provide a graduated approach of action and intervention. Most children's needs will be met through differentiation but some children will have Special Educational Needs. If the school feels that your child is not making "adequate progress" they will be put at School Action. School Action - Parents are involved.
- Information is gathered.
- An Individual Education Plan is prepared. The Individual Education Plan is a partnership plan for you, your child and the school.
- A review will take place (at least 2 per year)
Your child may then be taken off / remain at SCHOOL ACTION / be moved to SCHOOL ACTION PLUS, depending on his/her progress; this decision is made with you! School Action Plus - The school will contact appropriate outside agencies
- Advice and/or assessment will take place.
- An IEP (Individual Education Plan) will be agreed with you.
- It will be reviewed at least twice per year.
- At the review your child may be taken off / put at School Action / kept at School Action Plus or, if adequate progress is not made, referred to be considered for a Statutory Assessment.
Statutory Assessment will take into account, - - Views of parents
- Views of child
- Views of school
- Views of outside agencies
- I.E.P.s
- Evidence of progress over time
- Match to set criteria
This information will be sent to the moderating panel who will then decide if a multi-agency assessment should take place. This may lead to a Statement of Educational Need The school makes full use of the County Services in providing help for the full range of abilities that children display. Parents are asked to inform the school about any particular circumstances that may affect their child's education. The class-teacher has responsibility for Special Needs Provision within the class. Mrs de Belder has particular responsibility as Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) The School's special needs policy is followed by all staff. A copy of this policy can be seen below.
